Current Fieldwork : Suspended Sediment
Booner Tubes
Page soon to be updated with latest progress
Since June 2002, booner tubes have been under design and testing. The current design, simply created from a plastic drainage pipe can be seen as follows:
At the time of writing, two test runs have so far been conducted in the field to decide which arrangement and sizes of holes collects the greatest amount of suspended sediment. 5 different variations were created.
Once a design has been decided on, the tube's ability to collect sediment will be calibrated using known flow velocities/directions and known quantities of sediment in a flume tank. Final amendments will then be made to the internal design before being deployed at some of the locations where accretion/erosion (via plates and poles) is being monitored. | ||
