Exciting news for History and Filmmaking students! We’re delighted to introduce two brand new student prizes in association with The Content Club.
Co-founded by former Sussex History student Joe Farren, his father (creator of Digging for Britain), and award-winning director Sarah Jobling, The Content Club is revolutionising how TV history documentaries are made.
With the help of world-class historians, experienced producers and passionate fans, Content Club aims to crowdfund 10 History films per year and sell them internationally to broadcasters and streamers. The Club bypasses traditional television commissioners and channels and brings together History fans in the process.
The History Department Content Club Prize and the Documentary Filmmaking Prize offer students the opportunity to unlock a range of exciting experiences with a Content Club Membership Pass (worth £360).
The Membership Pass gives the winners an exclusive insight into the production of the Content Club’s historical documentaries. From attending production meetings to engaging in webinars with historians and directors, script reviews, access to the red-carpet premiere, your name on the credits and more – get ready for an immersive journey!
History Department Content Club Prize
The prize will be awarded to the final-year student with the highest-graded dissertation which engages with material relevant to historical documentary-making, including public history; the history of media, TV, and film; documentaries and film as evidence and archive; innovative approaches to historical narration and production.
Documentary Filmmaking Prize
There’s also the opportunity for MA students who have produced a documentary film on either the 855P4 Digital Documentary Project or 016P3 Media Project to win a Membership Pass. The prize will be awarded to the student who produces the highest-graded documentary film project addressing a topic relating to History, for example, films about a historical period or person; films about representations of history; films addressing the contemporary legacy of historical issues.
