Wondering how you can make a difference for the planet this spring? Look no further!
Join Sussex Uni Food's sustainability event series for a chance to learn, eat nutritious food, get inspired, and be part of the change.
From workshops on transforming kitchen scraps into thriving gardens to unravelling the mysteries of supermarket-herb longevity and sustainability issues within the cacao industry, the University, with the help of our catering partners, is fostering a culture of sustainability that extends from the kitchen to the campus and the wider community.
Join workshops, seminars, talks, and a nutritious pop-up lunch
The series kicks off with a workshop on how to grow food from waste, on Monday 22 April at The Veg Bowl @ Dhaba. Join to discover the transformative potential of overlooked kitchen ingredients. Following this, another workshop on keeping supermarket herbs alive will be held between 4-4.30pm, unravelling the secrets to maintaining fresh herbs for extended periods.
On Tuesday 23 April, join us for a repeat of the food waste workshop, if you missed it, for a demonstration of how waste can be used for a greener purpose. Missed out on Monday's supermarket-herb workshop? Don’t sweat it! Swing by on Tuesday and discover the art of repotting, pruning, and pest management, to ensure your herbs not only survive, but thrive!
The journey continues on Wednesday 24 April, with a nutritious lunch at The Veg Bowl @ Dhaba courtyard, by The Real Junk Food Project Brighton, a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing food waste and food poverty in the Brighton area.
Last but not least, Tony's Chocolonely, renowned for their commitment to ethical sourcing, will be on campus on Wednesday 1 May for a talk on sustainability and illegal child labour in the cocoa industry. Attendees will get to try Tony's mouthwatering chocolate!
Funding to drive change
These events, except for the above talk, are made possible by our catering partner’s new £25,000 Sustainability Fund, which will be spent in agreement with the University each year, to help drive a more sustainable service and reduce the carbon impact of our catering service across campus.
