Centre for Study Of Sexual Dissidence "Away" Afternoon
Friday 11 November 14:00 until 17:00
University of Sussex Campus : Silverstone building 302, and Zoom
INVITATION: Sex Diss “Away” Afternoon
WHEN: Fri 11 Nov, 2-5pm (2-3 for PGR focus, 3-5 for everyone)
WHERE: Silverstone SB302 and over Zoom (please contact samuel.solomon@sussex.ac.uk for Zoom link if you will be attending remotely)
WHO: Anyone who has been or would like to be connected to the work of the Centre for the Study of Sexual Dissidence.
WHAT/WHY: All staff and PGR students who are, or who would like to be, affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Sexual Dissidence are heartily invited to an annual “away” afternoon. The event will be held in person with an option to join remotely.
This afternoon is an opportunity to get to know other people working in gender and sexuality studies and to think about how we can use the heading of “Centre” to support, share, and facilitate the ground-breaking, urgent, and/or simply very interesting research that so many people at Sussex do in these fields of study.
Our afternoon will also be a chance to develop practices of sharing responsibility to, ownership of, and pride in the Centre over the years to come.
The afternoon will have two parts:
- 2-3pm – PGR FOCUS
The first hour will be focused on strengthening and developing our existing Postgraduate Research (PGR) Student network – all interested PGRs at Sussex are invited and encouraged to please join.
- 3-5pm — WHO WE ARE / WHAT DO WE WANT TO BE:
Hours two and three will be for all staff and PGRs and will focus on 1) getting to know about each other as researchers, 2) strategizing in the short and medium term about plans to support and share research and community engagement and, 3) proposing leadership structures and deciding what resources we need as a research and learning community
Please send any questions or suggestions to samuel.solomon@sussex.ac.uk
Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided, and we will socialise with a beverage or bag of crisps at the IDS bar afterwards.
