Wednesday 9 April 16:30 until 18:30
University of Sussex Campus : Research Common Room, Silverstone 302
Speaker: Emma Somerset Davis; Peter Robinson; Vinita Damodaran; Vincent Du
Part of the series: MEDIA @ SUSSEX Research Seminar

The final Media @ Sussex Research Seminar of the semester will be held in Silverstone Building 302, between 16:30 – 18:30pm on Wednesday 9th April.
The seminar brings together three presentations broadly on the theme of Creative approaches to historical and civic engagement: performativity, interactivity and place-making. From the fields of painting, oral history, and documentary making, the presentations draw our attention to performativity and interactivity as interdisciplinary approaches for examining history and culture. Emma Somerset Davis explores flower painting along the rivers Ouse, Adur and Cuckmere as a practice of performative vitalist mediation, within an eco-ethical feminist ontology. The Gardens & Gardeners of Sussex project, presented by Peter Robinson and Vinita Damodaran, explores the life histories of Sussex-based gardens and gardeners and the role they played in forging communities and encouraging sentiments of civic pride. Vincent Du will present his practice-based research project that explores the potential of interactive theatre in challenging the dominant national narrative surrounding China’s Cultural Revolution.
After the Research Seminar, there will be end-of-term drinks at the Open House pub (London Road train station) from 7.30pm. Please email Sally Chen or Alban Webb if you would like to join us. It would be lovely to see you there, regardless you are attending the seminar or not.
