To help launch the Sussex Festival of Ideas – a free, four-day festival celebrating the work of the newly formed School of Media, Arts and Humanities – the Chancellor of the University, Sanjeev Bhaskar OBE, will take part in a special edition of the student-led Media, Arts and Humanities podcast ‘On the Record’.
Sanjeev Bhaskar OBE is an English comedian, actor and television presenter, best known for his work in the BBC Two sketch comedy series 'Goodness Gracious Me' and as star of the sitcom 'The Kumars at No. 42'. He also presented and starred in a documentary series called 'India with Sanjeev Bhaskar' in which he travelled to India and visited his ancestral home in today's Pakistan. Sanjeev's more dramatic acting roles include the lead role of Dr Prem Sharma in 'The Indian Doctor' and a main role as DI Sunny Khan in 'Unforgotten'.
He became Chancellor of the University of Sussex in 2009 and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2019 to mark ten years in the role.
In this final musical road trip of the academic year, final-year student Rosie Graham concludes her search into the back story of key figures at Sussex as she asks all the big questions including: where are you going and what are you listening to?
Road Trip Records with Sanjeev Bhaskar takes place on Wednesday 28 April at 5.30pm. Access it via the festival website.
The launch of the festival programme begins at 2 pm with an exclusive introduction as the festival’s full programme goes live on its website, this will be led by Artistic Director Prof Mary Krell. Following this, at 4 pm, distinguished Sussex alumnus and BBC journalist, Clive Myrie, will deliver a keynote talk on why the arts and humanities matter and how his time at Sussex helped shape his career. Clive will reflect on his career (which began when he was a student at Sussex) and his current projects, including his new role as presenter of Mastermind.
