Iran is one country that always seems to be mentioned when it comes to ongoing deadly conflicts around the world, as well as the new flashpoints in the Middle East. From the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as the civil war in Syria, Iran has played an indirect role in the fighting, even from afar. The country’s tensions with the US, which have gone on for decades and its defensive strategy all play a part but to understand more, the BBC World Service have released an in-depth look at the five main reasons why Iran is involved in so many different conflicts.
