University retains strong showing in latest global rankings

The University has retained its position among the world’s top 200 for the third year in a row, according to newly published rankings.
The Shanghai Ranking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities or ARWU) has placed the University of Sussex 151-200 among world universities in its 2021 rankings.
The University made it into the UK Top 20 for five subjects including Physics (12-15), Environmental Science and Engineering (13-17), Economics (9-15), Communication (7-11) and Psychology (10-18).
Sitting among the world’s top 75, Geography is the highest ranked subject among the 21 at the University that feature in the rankings.
The University also ranks highly for Economics, which is listed amongst the world’s top 100.
Sussex has improved in rank for two subjects in the latest rankings, with Management rising into the top 200, while Human Biological Sciences is now among the top 300 in the world.
New to the ranking for this year is Finance, which is placed within the world’s top 200, while fellow debutant Computer Science & Engineering is in the global top 300.
More than 1,800 universities across 93 countries and regions are listed in the final rankings, which use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in relevant subjects, including international academic awards, top academic achievements, research quality and international collaboration.
