Appraisals: Support for Appraisers
Appraisals for PS staff should be completed by the end of September 2022 and the academic cycle is August to the end of July. Appraisals must be completed no later than 30th October. So, it’s a good idea to start planning in plenty of time. If you are new to Sussex University or a newly appointed appraiser, our Appraisals web page is here to help. You will find access to resources and support, as well as answers to frequently asked questions. But if you need further advice please get in touch with us at od@sussex.ac.uk.
As an appraiser, an important part of the appraisal process is to think about how you can support your staff to feel supported and develop in their roles, as well as reaching their career goals. You may like to watch this TED talk on having a coaching mindset as a manager How do good leaders give advice? The short answer: they don't. We also have some tips here to help individuals think about their own career development.
An apprenticeship as also a fantastic way to help your staff realise their long-term career goals and develop skills and knowledge required in their current role and beyond. Did you know that 65% of apprentices stay working for the company that trained them when they complete their apprenticeship and 69% of employers say that apprenticeships improved staff retention. Best of all 86% of employers said that apprentices helped to develop relevant skills for the organisation, and to fill the skills gap. It’s time to upskill our current workforce!
