ECR Development Series: Thinking creatively about your career
Thursday 3 April 10:00 until 13:00
Online
Part of the series: ECR Development Series
Although academia has long been the traditional route for PhDs, there are now a wealth of fulfilling opportunities
This interactive workshop encourages participants to explore their skills, interests and values to discover alternative paths. With the help of an experienced facilitator, you'll consider:
- What you want from a career
- How to market your skillset effectively
- What additional skills you need to be successful
Through discussions, self-reflection exercises and case studies, you’ll gain the confidence and knowledge to take the next step.
Learning outcomes
By the end of session, you'll have:
- Discovered some alternative career options
- Explored what you want from your career
- Identified your transferable skills
- Considered how to find the job you want
- Set some achievable goals and milestones
Target audience
Early to mid-career researchers in any discipline.
About the facilitator
Dr Catherine Pope was awarded her PhD in 2014. Since then, she has trained thousands of researchers at all stages, supporting them in reaching their goals. With a diverse professional background in academia, software engineering, and publishing, she enjoys learning difficult concepts and helping other people understand them. Catherine has written extensively about her favourite fields of technology and Victorian literature. She's currently working (very slowly) on her fourth book and finding new ways of tricking herself into writing.
