Colin Shipp, Director of HR, wrote to all academic staff today, 13 September. See the full text of his email below.
I am writing with a reminder about actions to take following UCU’s notification that the marking and assessment boycott has come to an end, as well as information about repayment of Action Short of Strike (marking and assessment boycott) deductions following the Vice-Chancellor's email to staff on Monday 11 September.
Declaring participation in the marking and assessment boycott
Any members of staff, including Tutors, who have not yet declared their participation in the marking and assessment boycott for A2 and/or A3 must declare their participation by 5pm on Monday 18 September 2023 via the University’s online declaration form (accessible from the industrial action webpages), or by emailing IAqueries@sussex.ac.uk. As well as the requirement for a colleague to declare participation as requested by the University, we need an accurate record of participation to ensure that all marking is complete and all deductions are repaid accordingly.
Return of salary deductions
If you participated in the marking and assessment boycott and all your outstanding marking is completed by 12pm on Monday 2 October 2023, or you declare yourself available to mark and complete any marking assigned to you by that date, all salary deductions made for your participation in the boycott will be returned in the October or November payroll.
Further information is available on the University industrial action webpages.
Kind regards,
Colin Shipp
