Lifelong Learning Week 2024

Last updated: Thursday, 31 October 2024
Are you a mature student - aged 21+ at the start of your undergraduate degree?
Join us to find your community, showcase your skills and tell your story, as part of a week celebrating adult learning around the UK.
Meet our team!
Monday 4 – Thursday 7 November, 11am-1pm
Visit our stand in the Student Centre Atrium to find out more about our mature students' community. Sit down for a chat and a snack, contribute to our display, and grab a copy of our Mature Students' Guide to Sussex.
Showcase your skills
Monday, 12:30 - 1:30pm (drop in).
Most of us take part in a range of activities outside of work or study. Some are fun or enriching, others are challenging or demand our responsibility. Almost all of them develop our transferrable skills and help us to continue developing long after our degrees end. In this drop-in session aimed at students age 21+, we’ll identify the key transferrable skills from the things you’ve done in your life – from crafting to sports, parenting to performing, or gaming to volunteering!
We'll also have free pizza for booked attendees - while stocks last!
Book to attend.
Pastries & Plan: Prepare for assignments & find your community
Thursday 7 November, 12-2pm (drop-in)
Join our regular Mature Students’ Community drop-in. At this week’s session, mature student Connectors and Academic Skills staff will lead informal discussions about upcoming assignments and essays. Come along to share ideas, get advice, or simply break your writers’ block! Plus our regular snacks, drinks and chat. You’re welcome to come for just a few minutes or the whole 2 hours, around your other commitments.

Tell your story: Creating Voice Storytelling Workshops
Thursday 7 November, 2.30-4pm, or Tuesday 12 November 4-6pm
Tell your story and learn creative storytelling techniques, in a safe, fun and supportive space with other mature students.
We are delighted to offer students the opportunity to take part in a two-part workshop led by Sussex alumni, PhD researcher and professional storyteller Jon Mason. Whether you want to give a compelling presentation, share bedtime stories with your children or write an engaging article, everyone will take something away from this workshop.
