On Saturday 26 October 2024 we join in celebrating Intersex Awareness Day, a time to raise visibility for intersex individuals and advocate for their rights. First observed in 2004, this day highlights the human rights issues faced by those born with variations in sex characteristics. The date commemorates the 1996 protest by intersex activists at the American Academy of Paediatrics.
