The School of Life Sciences has developed a Race Equity Action Plan to embed anti-racism across all aspects of its work and learning environment. The action plan has been developed by the Head of School, Professor Sarah Guthrie, in consultation with the School Race Equity Advocates and the School Senior Management.

The action plan is currently in a draft stage, and the School is inviting comments from its staff and student cohorts.

Head of School, Professor Sarah Guthrie, said: “The School of Life Sciences commits itself to working towards racial equity, and to creating a culture of anti-racism that attracts and supports a diverse student and staff body. We are pleased to be opening a consultation period for the action plan, so that everyone in our community can contribute their thoughts.”

Race Equity Advocate and third year Pharmacy student Deborah Nyaberi, said: “A lot of work has gone into drafting the action plan and it is the first step in the direction of embedding race equity and an anti-racist culture throughout the School of Life Science. Many of the actions have come directly from feedback given by students and staff, any comments and contributions will continue to be valued.”

The consultation period will run until Monday 30 November. The document can be accessed online via the EDI page, and feedback can be provided through completion of a short survey or attending a focus group.

For students, focus groups will be run by the Race Equity Advocates on Wednesday 11 and 25 November, 13:00 to 15:00 – join the sessions using this zoom link.  

For staff, focus groups will be run on Tuesday 10 and 17 November, 12:00 to 13:00 – join the sessions using this zoom link.
