Dr Xiangming Tao
We are delighted to announce that Dr Xiangming (Tommy) Tao, Lecturer at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex Business School, has received the esteemed Paul R. Lawrence (PRL) Fellowship at the North American Case Research Association’s 66th Annual Meeting in Florida last month.
The PRL Fellowship is a distinguished global recognition, honouring Early Career Researchers with outstanding contributions and potential in case research, writing, and teaching. Established in 2015 by the Case Research Foundation, fewer than 10 PRL Fellowships are awarded globally each year, underscoring the competitive nature and significance of this honour.
Reflecting on the achievement, Dr Tao said:
“The PRL Fellowship validates my passion for case research, writing, and teaching and serves as a stepping stone toward creating meaningful content for the academic community. It’s an invaluable opportunity to learn, grow, and exchange insights with fellow educators and students.”
Dr Tao was also awarded the Case Writing Scholarship from the Case Centre in September 2023, recognizing potential and excellence in case writing—a vital tool for experiential learning in business education. Notably, one of his teaching cases is featured in the textbook ‘Exploring Entrepreneurship’ (3rd edition, September 2021, SAGE Publications), highlighting his contribution to business education resources. He added:
“Representing the Business School and SPRU in receiving these honours has been a privilege. It was wonderful to connect with estimated colleagues from around the world. My sincere thanks to the SPRU Director, Professor Jeremy Kent Hall, and my amazing colleagues at the Business School for their invaluable guidance and support.”
Dr Tao’s achievements demonstrate his dedication and expertise in case research, writing, and teaching. His international recognition highlights the School’s commitment to impactful research and to supporting faculty who make significant contributions to the global academic community.
