Many colleagues, students and alumni are making a difference in our local communities through volunteering activities. If you are looking for a new way to give back to the community and to help shape the education of the next generation, you might wish to consider becoming a school governor. Later this month we are co-hosting a webinar with the Governors for Schools charity, with which we have set up a new partnership, to talk about the benefits of volunteering your time to a school board and to answer any questions you may have about this.
Join the webinar from 11am to 12 noon on Wednesday 28 February to hear more about how you can get into governance and share your skills to make a difference to schools in your local community, wherever you are across the UK. Staff, students and alumni are all eligible to become governors and are welcome to attend the webinar.
School boards in Sussex and across the country need skilled and committed individuals to help drive strategic change. As members of the University community, we know that you have a huge variety of skills and experience to offer.
Register for the webinar via Zoom.
For those of you unable to attend the live webinar, we will share a recording afterwards.
Why volunteer as a school governor?
-
Put your skills to practical use and see the impact of your decisions on young people’s education.
-
Help schools overcome challenges to ensure a bright future for children in your community.
-
Work collaboratively with people from different backgrounds, challenging your own perspective and broadening your professional network.
-
Gain new experience and skills that you can bring to your current or future jobs.
You can also head over to the Governors for Schools website to find out more about the role and the next steps for getting involved.
We hope that you feel inspired to have a positive impact on the next generation of learners. If you do decide to volunteer as a school governor, I would love to hear about it.
