The revamped Library Café is now open, offering Costa Coffee and Planet Doughnut’s incredible sweet treats – and you can try them for free this week!
The café has been refurbished over the winter break with a new layout to tackle the bottleneck that had been restricting the flow of people, and to make the most of its tasty new offerings. To celebrate the launch, there will be special offers and giveaways all week including:
‘Choice for staff and students’
At the end of 2022, we held a campus-wide consultation including a survey of 2,080 students and 1,175 staff.
Almost 40% of respondents said they wanted to see more brands on campus – and Costa was one of the high street names which people wanted most. 39% thought the mix was just right, while almost one in five felt there should not be any brands on our campus.
“We hope that this new-look Library Café gives people what they’re looking for… people told us they wanted Costa, so we made that part of our winning bid,” says Mark Lawrence from our catering partners Sussex Uni Food. “The feedback so far has been really positive, especially on the doughnuts!
“But we also know that it’s really important that staff and students have a choice so in other campus cafes we are serving local coffee brand Redroaster, and the Arts Piazza café sells Coffee for Causes, where a new socially responsible coffee is introduced each term.”
Have your say

We are looking for both staff and students to join the forums and share your views, both in person and online via short surveys from time to time. If you would like join the list, please fill in this very short online form.
