Arts Path Closure
Posted on behalf of: Better Campus Team
Last updated: Thursday, 7 September 2023
From Friday 8 September to Wednesday 20 September, the Arts Path under Arts Bridge will be closed and diversions will be in place.
We have been installing new underground services alongside the Arts Path as part of our work to prepare campus for the West Slope development. Between 8 September and 20 September, there will be a temporary closure of the Arts Path underneath Arts Bridge to allow the installation of communications ducting. This work will take place between 7:30am – 7pm each day, including weekends.
During this closure there will be two pedestrian diversions in place. One route will divert via the stairs next to Shawcross (26 steps). There is also a step-free route that diverts inside Arts A as well as via outdoor pathways. Please be aware that this route is long but there will be signage to help direct you along the way and we have included some advice and guides below.
The cycle path will also be closed and cyclists advised to use North South Road.
Step-free Diversion Route via Arts A
The recommended step-free diversion takes pedestrians through Arts A. Please note:
-
The diversion through Arts A uses a lift. To use the lift, you need to press and hold the button for the duration of the ride otherwise the lift will stop.
-
Inside Arts A, please follow the blue floor stickers which are part of the step-free Library route. When following the diversion route on pavements, please follow the Better Campus diversion signage.
-
The doors to Arts A will be open between 7am and 8pm each day of the closure. Outside of these hours, the door will be locked and only accessible to those who have an Arts A SALTO keycard. If you do not have SALTO keycard access to Arts A, the recommended step-free diversion is via North South Road or you can request Arts A SALTO keycard access from SEF.
-
Everyone with a University of Sussex ID card can use Brighton & Hove Buses free of charge around campus – just show your pass to the driver
