SHL Digital 2023-24 seed funding awards announced

Six projects have been selected for seed funding on the latest Sussex Digital Humanities Lab call for proposals. On its second year running, the call received ten applications from teams of researchers across the University.
The six awarded projects and teams are:
Working Mothers Reflux, Rachel Thompson (Social Work & Social Care) with Rebecca Taylor (University of Southampton), Ester McGenney (Independent consultant), Maggie Gordon Walker (Mothers Uncovered), and Sue Sharpe (archive owner).
Rooted, Connecting with Local Food Systems: Perpetua Kirby and Rebecca Webb (Education), with John Thompson and Jim Jackson (IDS), Christopher Sandom (Life Sciences), Michael Jonik (English), and Jo Walton (English).
Unpacking Socio-Technical Imaginaries of AI Applications in China and the UK: Engaging The Stakeholder: Xiufeng Jia (Media and Film), with Lianrui Jia (University of Sheffield).
Embodied AI performance: Evelyn Ficarra (Music), with Chris Kiefer and Tim Hopkins (Music), Phil Husbands and Andy Philippides (Informatics), and Elizabeth Jochum (Alborg University, Denmark).
Developing a targeted chatbot intervention for loneliness and social isolation: Justyna Robinson (Linguistics), with Faith Matcham (Psychology), Kirsty Pattrick (The Keep), and Rhys Sandow and Sandra Young (Concept Analytics Lab).
Electronic Believers: Simon Bowes and Adam Rotowski (Informatics).
SHL Digital’s annual call for proposals is the cornerstone of our incubator programme which is designed to nurture and support the development of inter and transdisciplinary teams and ideas. The next call is expected to open in Autumn 2024.
