We would like to invite you to our second meeting, which will take place on Wednesday 27th November at 4pm in Freeman Centre G22. In the meantime, be on the lookout for our flyer (attached here)! For our next meeting we will read only 20 pages, making it easier for those who missed the first meeting to catch up. We will discuss Chapter 3: A Protracted, Positive-Sum Struggle (pp.53-73). If you missed the last discussion, don’t worry—everyone is welcome to join! You can access the digital copy of the Palgrave version of the book here.

 For those who could not attend our first meeting, our discussion covered the following:
        
Losurdo's use of historical sources in his attempt to "reconstruct the significance" (p.5) of theory of class struggle in the works of Marx and Engels;
        

The limited use of contemporary sources on the topic;

How Losurdo's own anticolonial Marxism might be understood in terms of decolonial theory; similarly on Losurdo's discussion of Marx and Engels on the oppression of women in relation to social reproduction theory;
       

Whether the book's formulation of 'class struggle' is reductive or expansive in its treatment of class, various forms of oppression, and conflict;
       

The claim that "Marx and Engels' theory of class struggle is a general theory of social conflict, even if it is not systematically or organically expounded" (p.46);

The challenges of tracing citations of the Marx and Engels Collected Works (MECW) in the endnotes.
