We are changing the way people access University systems to help keep you and the institution protected from cyber threats.
This impacts all staff and all students and anyone else who uses University of Sussex systems.
Take action now
Many of you have already signed in to Okta. If you haven’t yet done this, you need to sign in now to make sure you can continue using software applications as they move across. It should take you less than a minute to do.
From Thursday 10 August
From 10 August, we will be transferring Sussex Direct and the IT Services portal to Okta. Once the transfer is complete, you will access both applications via Okta.
This should be an easy and straightforward process. However, should you experience any difficulties, please contact the IT Services helpdesk.
Why
We need to make improvements to our access and security by introducing software which ensures you can access University systems and software applications safely and securely.
In time, it will mean you only need a single password to sign-in to the University system and access many of the software applications and tools that you need.
Further information and help
Other software applications will be added to Okta in due course. We’ll keep you up to date whenever we make a change.
Multifactor Authentication (MFA)* will also be introduced for all staff and students, and we’ll send you further information about how to make the change when we’re ready to launch.
If you have any questions about IT security, the roll out of Okta or MFA please contact us at: Okta.SSO-MFA@sussex.ac.uk
*Multifactor Authentication (MFA) provides you with an additional validation code as part of the sign-in process for University applications, ensuring that you are signing in and not someone who has stolen your details.
