A selection of 240 books dating from 1766 onwards and focusing on the geographical and historical development of Sussex, deposited with the University by the Sussex Archaeological Society.
The collection includes Thomas Walker Horsfield’s , The History, Antiquities and Topography of the County of Sussex in 2 volumes from 1835. Also included are several editions realting to various 18th & 19th century Sussex poets such as Charlotte Smith. See also the Sussex Poets collection.

Access
This collection is available in the reference area of Special Collections for browisng and consultation and is not available for loan. All researchers will need to fill out an application for access form on their first visit. It is not always necessary to make an appointment to use these books but it might be advisable to do so if you are making a special trip in case seats are unavailable.

As many of these books and journals are fragile, it is not possible to photocopy from them, but researchers are welcome to use the digital copier available in Special Collections s to take images of the material. Normal copyright rules for published material apply and a fee for us of the digital copier will be made.
