Develop Your English: with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is an interactive e-textbook for English language learners written by Sue Robbins, Senior Lecturer in English Language Teaching and published by University of Sussex Open Press. It has been selected as a finalist for the British Council ELTons Innovation Awards in the Excellence in Course Innovation category.
Develop Your English is shared under a Creative Commons license permitting no-cost access, and incorporates a global perspective into the language learning process. International student reviewers described it as ‘the book they wished they’d had,’ saying it offers ‘a transformative expedition into language proficiency, global awareness and sustainable learning' and that 'the engaging topics and thoughtful design make it both attractive and inspiring, while using the SDGs as content for learning English is truly meaningful.’
The ELTons celebrate innovation in English Language Teaching and are considered a mark of quality and originality. Each year they celebrate the most original courses, publications, projects, apps and platforms that are transforming the English language teaching landscape for learners and teachers. The judges evaluate the awards based on innovation and functionality and consider the potential for significant reach and impact of the materials, and the potential impact of the innovation on the future of English language teaching/learning and the wider ELT market.
