There were joyous celebrations at Zhejiang Gongshang University in Hangzhou, China on Saturday 17th March for students graduating from the two masters programmes offered at the Sussex Artificial Intelligence Institute.
Proudly launched in 2020 as the Sussex Artificial Intelligence Institute, Zhejiang Gongshang University, this is the first joint institute of its kind and is now regarded as a major success in transnational education.
The 100 students, who were graduating from two programmes - MSc Artificial Intelligence and Adaptive Systems, and MSc Robotics and Autonomous Systems - were praised by university leaders for their commitment and hard work.
Professor Wang Yonggui, president of Zhejiang Gongshang University congratulated the students and said, “I look forward to seeing your talents benefit your local community here in Zhejiang, and around the world.” Sussex Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global and Civic Engagement Robin Banerjee attended the ceremony and afterwards said, “We’re now very excited about developing the joint institute further. We’re already doing wonderful work at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence, but the University of Sussex has world leading strength in a range of other disciplines as well including the humanities, sustainable development, migration, trade policy, film-making, business and management and so on. We’re now actively discussing new developments in our cooperation with Chinese universities, to expand our collaborative provision further across all of these different areas.”
The Institute’s first undergraduate cohort of students who began their studies in 2020, will celebrate their own graduation in September this year alongside Sussex Vice-Chancellor Sasha Roseneil who will award them with their degrees.
