LGBTQ+ Self-Assessment Team and Inclusion Action Plan

Last updated: Thursday, 16 March 2023
The LGBTQ+ Self-Assessment Team (SAT) is responsible for defining the priorities and monitoring the progress of the University’s LGBTQ+ Inclusion Action Plan.
This document is updated annually and is part of a more detailed plan which includes SMART (specific, measurable, attainable and relevant) goals for each action described in the plan.
The LGBTQ+ Inclusion Action Plan involves steps that contribute to the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. One of the aims of Inclusive Sussex is for the University of Sussex to be a top 100 employer within the Index by 2025.
Some key priorities for the LGBTQ+ SAT in 2023 are:
- Introduce a Trans and Non-binary Inclusion Policy
- Support and further develop membership of the Trans and Non-binary and LGBTQ+ Staff network
- Increase connections with the local community including LGBTQ+ specific organisations and events
- Launch the LGBTQ+ Stories @Sussex project and mechanisms to better understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ staff and students at Sussex
The plan also includes work relating to academic study at Sussex and actions based on the feedback from LGBTQ+ staff and students, including via our LGBTQ+ Staff Network and Trans and Non-binary Staff Network, and SU student representative groups.
The LGBTQ+ SAT meets every two months and is chaired by a member of the EDI Unit and an academic lead. The SAT is made up of staff and student representatives with a range of roles relating to policy and communications, and EDI and LGBTQ+ representation.
Getting Involved
There will be opportunities for members of the Trans and Non-binary Staff Network and the LGBT Staff Network to be involved in giving feedback which will contribute to the LGBTQ+ Inclusion Action Plan.
If you are an LGBTQ+ member of staff at Sussex and you would like to find out more about joining these Networks then visit our Staff Networks Page.
If you are a student, you can give your feedback by speaking with the Students' Union LGBTQ+ Officers or the TNBI Officer.
