Please join us at the SCCS Annual Meeting and Picnic to meet fellow researchers, and plan activities and collaborations for the year ahead.
You are invited to join our Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies Annual Meeting and picnic. We are keen to extend an invitation across campus to academic colleagues in other Faculties, at all stages of their academic career, committed to cultural studies and cultural analysis who would like to learn more - please come along.
Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies, based in the Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities, is one of the leading centres for cultural studies nationally.
Over the last decade, we have maintained an active programme of events, focusing on the relation of culture (everyday / aesthetic / feeling / political) to race, colonialism, gender and sexuality. Our research covers:
- youth and city cultures
- sonic and digital life
- feelings and fashion
- atmospheres and demonstrations
- food and taste
- playgrounds and prisons, and much more.
This year we launched The State of Cultural Analysis Seminar Series. The seminar series explores the most contemporary approaches to cultural studies and cultural analysis and asserts the ongoing urgency of that work.
Most importantly, Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies provides a convivial context for the study and analysis of culture. We provide platforms for post-graduate and early career scholars, and for internationally recognised scholars and cultural studies institutions. At a time of dislocation and competition, we maintain a mutualist ethos in which academic staff, students and researchers of culture can work collectively, and in which we use the resources of the centre, to support one another in that endeavour.
At the Annual Meeting we will plan the events, activities, research collaborations, and management of the centre for the years ahead, and we very much welcome input into that from new and existing participants.
After the meeting, we will head to IDS for a drink.
