First up, Sussex Swimming Club had a fantastic showing at the British Universities Long Course Championships. It was our largest and strongest team yet competing across more events and relays than ever before.
A great performance came from Sussex Scholar Nimath, who won his heat and swam two seconds faster than last year, securing a well-earned seasons best. Women’s captain Abigail also had a brilliant meet, achieving personal bests and winning all her heats in style. Sam put in a particularly impressive swim in the 100m freestyle, in a PB time.
Our women’s freestyle relay team (made up of Abi, Beth, Alana, and Amber) put in a gutsy and determined performance, just missing out on a spot in the B final by three seconds.
A huge shout-out to Santiago, Beth, Eleanor, Amber, Alana, Abi, John, and Sam for securing season-best times throughout their races and representing Sussex with professionalism, dedication, and team spirit.
This year's championships was a significant milestone for the club, with more swimmers competing and strong, confident performances all round. The future is looking bright!
Next up, Sussex Athletics had an incredibly successful Indoor Champs, with every athlete acheiving a seasons best or personal best. In the sprints, Harry Lawal and Sports Scholar Chloe Ramsay both ran seasons best times in the 60m heats, while Matheus Mann and Rocco Hu both ran a new personal best in the 200m.
The longer sprints were also fruitful with Dylan Andrews and Oscar Norman performing seasons bests in the 400m. Onto the jumps, and it was PBs all round for our long jumpers, Kie Kwong and Kristian Roberts, while Matheus Mann competed in his 2nd event of the weekend, earning a seaons best in the triple jump.
