On Tuesday, February 25th, Vice-Chancellor Prof Sasha Roseneil along with the Global Engagement team had the pleasure of welcoming 20 colleagues from our esteemed partner institution, Mahidol University in Thailand, to the University of Sussex.
We were delighted to spend the day with our partners from Mahidol University, an institution our university has had a flourishing relationship with since 2016.
Their visit posed a great opportunity for Vice-Chancellor Sasha Roseneil to meet the new Mahidol University President Prof Piyamitr Sritara for the first time.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global and Civic Engagement, Prof Robin Banerjee, set the tone for the visit by highlighting the shared strengths and values of both Sussex and Mahidol Universities, aligned by the goal to create citizens of the world.
We were excited to facilitate meaningful roundtable discussions between the Mahidol delegates and Sussex academics, covering a variety of subjects and disciplines, including health sciences, technology, humanities and social sciences, as well as human resource management. These exchanges sparked ideas for future collaborations, particularly in the areas of research and student exchange.
The visit also featured an insightful presentation from the Sussex Innovation Centre, showcasing how they drive innovation through collaborations, knowledge exchange and strategic advice and mentoring .
Since 2016 about 150 students from Mahidol have participated in Sussex programmes and 7 joint research projects have been funded through the Mahidol Sussex Seed Fund. It was a pleasure to welcome such a large delegation and a great opportunity to meet our partners, who we have worked with for so long, in person.
As the day drew to a close, we were fortunate that the UK weather showed its sunnier side, allowing our colleagues from Mahidol University to enjoy our campus in the best possible light before we concluded the visit.
