Celebrating diversity through food
Sussex Uni Food brings student-inspired dishes to life for the second year this term, following the great success of the Student Food Takeover’s debut year.
Our food takeovers are an opportunity for you to bring a taste of your home to Sussex, sharing a piece of your culture and home-country flavours with hungry peers and staff.
Earlier in the year, we asked students to submit recipes from their home country for campus chefs to recreate, as part of our 2025 Student Food Takeover, and the results are now in.
Winning recipes
In total, 30 recipes were submitted by students from around the world, and the catering team were faced with the challenging task of selecting and preparing just three of them.
The winning recipes were submitted by two students each, who have given their feedback to ensure that the dishes are prepared and presented authentically, staying as true to their country of origin as possible.
Working with the six winners to craft these traditional meals carefully, to have student approval guaranteed, our chefs are happy to announce the winning meals will be served as pop-up lunches in Eat Central this spring…
Save the date
Don’t miss the chance to try these unique, student-inspired dishes from around the globe.
Canadian Poutine, a golden dish of French fries and cheese curds topped with gravy, will be served on 12 and 13 March. Kuwaiti Chicken Machboos, an aromatic rice dish with chicken, will be served on 2 and 3 April. Venezuelan Arepas, mouthwatering, crispy flatbread served with a variety of fillings, will be served on 14 and 15 May.
Winner takes it all
Each dish will only cost £2 and will be named after those of you who submitted the recipe. And that's not all – winners will get a free meal for themselves and three of their friends on the big day!
Keep an eye out for more catering updates and join other students and staff as we celebrate diversity through the international language of food.
