Students discussing catering during Foodie Forum

Upgraded Library café
Students leading the way
The second Foodie Forum of the academic year 2024-25 took place in the recently revamped Library café, on Thursday 13 February.
Thirteen students gathered to share their views and ideas on food at Sussex with peers and staff. This month’s focus was marketing and engagement, and the topics included methods to increase student engagement with catering activities and incentive mechanisms.
Student feedback
Students expressed their appreciation of the University’s continuous efforts to improve catering, including recent upgrades to facilities and menus, and suggested best ways to increase student engagement and overall satisfaction with all things food at Sussex.
Their ideas will be shared with our catering contract colleagues and Sussex Uni Food to inform ongoing initiatives aimed at providing an exceptional catering service for all.
Carmen Lehmann, PGT Media Practice for Development and Social Change, said: “Foodie Forums connect us to the food choices made on campus and allow us to have conversations about improving things, making us feel valued.”
Leon Dobson, UG Computer Science, said: “I really enjoyed being part of this forum, expressing my opinions and experiences with food at Sussex. Events like this are really important as they allow us to be heard and for the catering team to get accurate feedback from us.”
Library café revamp
Have you noticed the Library café’s recent upgrades?
The social space facing the till has been transformed into a vibrant, cosy spot filled with natural light. Designed with a focus on sustainability, it features second-hand and deadstock furniture, creating a modern design inspired by independent Brighton cafés.
