The Sussex Education Festival is back for its third year! On Friday 2 May, colleagues from across the university will come together to share their experiences, research and reflections on teaching and learning here at Sussex.
We’d like to encourage all colleagues involved in teaching and learning to consider submitting a proposal. This year, the festival will focus on three core themes with a variety of formats to choose from. We particularly welcome co-presenting with students and have some student participation vouchers available.
Our three core themes can be interpreted as broadly as possible:
Inclusion and belonging at university
Presentations on this theme might reflect on:
- Supporting inclusive learning communities
- Student creativity and self-expression
- Social justice pedagogies
- Enhancing international student experience
- Celebrating and developing our global community
- Inclusive and accessible assessment, including universal design for learning and designing out Reasonable Adjustments
Higher Education in five years’ time
Presentations on this theme might reflect on:
- What does the future of Higher Education look like?
- Who we will be teaching and how?
- The potential to diversify our offer and programmes
- Innovating with use of technology
- Teaching to address global challenges, such as environmental sustainability and conflict
Embedding student citizenship, skills and employability
Presentations on this theme might reflect on:
- Education for uncertainty, citizenship and social justice
- Developing lifelong learners
- Authentic assessment, experiential learning and assessment for learning
- Embedding employability and skills development in the curriculum
We welcome proposals in three different formats:
Poster presentations will showcase ideas and reflections in our poster exhibition, alongside a rapid slot to introduce the content
Work-in-progress lightning talks will last 7 minutes, providing short reflections on current practice or projects
15-minute case studies allow more space to present ideas and/or reflections on current practice, pedagogic developments or research in your chosen area
We’re excited to celebrate and reflect on all the amazing work that goes in to teaching and learning here at Sussex. Please submit your ideas through the Call for Participation Form by Wednesday 5 March. If you would like a document version of the CFP, or if you have any questions, please contact the team.
