Hello,
This month is the twentieth anniversary of LGBT+ History Month here in the UK, celebrating our rich and diverse histories. Sussex will be marking it with the pride flag flying over Sussex House and some fantastic events including the Students’ Union ReProm on 21 February.
I am always keen to hear about your Sussex experience, which is why next week I will be speaking with students in the Student Centre between 12.45pm and 2.15pm on Wednesday 12 February. This time, I would like to hear your thoughts on assessment and feedback, or anything else you have on your mind.
To book a 15-minute slot, email the Student Communications and Campaigns team at internalcomms@sussex.ac.uk with the subject “Open office session for students.” You can take part as an individual or bring a couple of friends (e.g. from your course or a society).

Valentine's at Sussex: Caring for Ourselves, Others and the Planet
Looking for a way to unwind, connect, and celebrate Valentine’s a little differently this year? Join us for Valentine's at Sussex: Caring for Ourselves, Others and the Planet on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 February, 11am - 3pm at the Student Centre.
Enjoy a range of completely free activities designed to help you relax, recharge, and spread a little love, including meeting friendly animals such as rabbits and goats, free food, crafts, film screenings, pamper pop-up, Lego play, sensory room and climate events.
Most activities are drop-in but some require prior booking — see the full schedule of activities.
English Language for Academic Study support for international students
If English is not your first language, there is a fantastic range of workshops running this term from the English Language for Academic Study team. The workshops cover a wide range of subjects relating to academic language, skills and culture.
Looking after your wellbeing in February
From Canine Cuddles to speed mates for neuro-divergent students, there is plenty to get involved with at Sussex to support your wellbeing. Find out more in the February wellbeing update.
Safe use of AI at Sussex: Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, and other AI tools
The growth of AI is advancing at incredible pace, and much of it is untested. Extreme vigilance and care should be taken when you consider downloading and using AI apps and services. Read this news story for guidance.
Down Syndrome Development Trust bagel van moved to Library Square
Have you visited Relish, the Down Syndrome Development Trust bagel van yet? Serving fresh bagels on campus every Thursday and Friday, the van is now based at Library Square. Visit this week between 10am-2.30pm to support a special initiative.
Choose between whipped cream cheese, beetroot humus & salad, banana & peanut butter, and more delicious toppings! Coffee, tea and snacks also available.
Students share their thoughts on campus
Find out what you and your peers told us about eating, living and studying on campus in the 2024 Student Spaces Survey.
Your feedback gave us a great insight into what you love, what you would like to improve and what you would like to see on campus. From your go-to café to the best study spots, here is what you had to say.
Sexual Violence Awareness week
This week is Sexual Violence Awareness week and we are standing against all forms of sexual harassment and violence. If it makes someone feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or violated, it is harassment. No matter the form it takes, sexual harassment is never acceptable.
If you experience or witness sexual harassment, University of Sussex students can report it through Report & Support. Follow @universityofsussexwellbeing for more info.
Build confidence cycling to campus with the bike train
Do you want to ride to campus, but have not got around to doing it yet? Join the bike train next Friday 14 February for a fun, free and safely stewarded bike ride from the Level park to campus. Book your spot!
With best wishes,
Kate
