How do you manage the ethical and legal complexities of digital research? This session will introduce both theoretical considerations and practical advice to help you navigate this area for your research project.
Judith will introduce participants to the legal and regulatory landscape for digital research, within and beyond the academic institution. Taking a critical perspective and drawing on her own experiences of empirical research projects and ethics review processes, she will consider how scholars can best navigate law and regulation, especially when employing innovative digital research methods.
Carol will give an overview of navigating the ethics review process and offer advice on the ethical considerations, university policies and regulatory requirements associated with digital research, when you are submitting your ethics application.
This is a hybrid workshop open to Sussex humanities and social science researchers at all levels. Please register using your @sussex email address and select either in-person or online attendance. Light refreshments will be provided for in-person attendees.
This workshop is part of the Digital Methods Accelerator, a series of open sessions hosted by the Sussex Digital Humanities Lab providing Humanities and Social Science researchers with critical digital skills.
