IT Services will soon be running an important security update on your computer. Global Protect, the staff VPN, will be updated early morning on Monday 20 January (step 2 below). To ensure this goes as smoothly as possible with little impact on your working day, please make sure your device has the latest updates and you have saved any files when you have finished working for the day on Friday 17 January (step 1 below).

Follow the steps below for your device type:
- Windows desktop PC users:
1. Sign out (press ctrl + alt + delete, then chose ‘Sign Out’).
2. Leave your computer turned on.
3. The security updates will apply automatically overnight.
4. Your computer will then go into sleep mode and you will be able to continue using it again in the morning.
- Windows laptop users:
1. Type “Windows Update” in the search box at the bottom-left of your screen and hit Enter.
2. On the Windows Update screen, click ‘Check for updates’.
3. After running the check your computer will either say;

- Updates are waiting to be applied.
4. If there are updates waiting, save your work and restart your laptop to install the outstanding updates while connected to a power source.
- Apple Mac users:
If you have received prompts to install University updates, please apply these by Friday 17th January.
