Workshops to support staff using technology in teaching and learning

Educational Enhancement are offering a range of workshops and events over the next few weeks, designed to support colleagues using technology in teaching and learning. Please find details of each workshop and how to register below.

January 2025 workshops
Introduction to Buddycheck
Date: Thursday 16 January

Tech in Teaching Spaces Challenge
Date: Monday 20 January
Time: 11.00- 12.00pm
In person - University of Sussex Campus: ARTS A A01 GTS Lecture Theatre
A hands-on challenge-based session exploring how to use the audio-visual and IT equipment in teaching spaces, including Panopto for lecture capture.

Canvas Basics for new Teaching Staff and Doctoral Tutors
Date: Tuesday 21 January
Time: 11.00-12.00pm

This session will show how to carry out basic editing of Canvas pages, and fundamental communications with students. Participants will have the opportunity to practice making changes to Canvas pages, sending communications via Announcements, and publishing Canvas content.

Creating Accessible Digital resources
Date: Thursday 23 January
Time: 11.00-12.00pm

This session will highlight the importance of accessibility, as well as offering practical guidance on how to check and improve the accessibility of existing resources.
Participants will have the opportunity to practice checking resources for accessibility and take steps to improve this.

Introduction to Generative AI within teaching
Date: Tuesday 28 January
Time: 2.00-3.00pm
In-person: Educational Enhancement training room, Ground Floor, Library
(Please note this event is limited to capacity of 10 attendees) book now to avoid disappointment. This session introduces the AI tools available for use at Sussex.
Participants will have the opportunity to get some hands-on experience using AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, as well as learning the basic skills of prompt engineering and considering when and how to use AI to assist with their teaching.

February & March 2025 workshops and events
Introducing Poll Everywhere
Date: Thursday 20 February
Time: 1.00-2.00pm

This session will introduce the polling tool in Poll Everywhere, allowing you to pose a range of different questions such as multiple-choice, open-ended questions and clickable images to students. Learn how to navigate and use the tool as well as looking at best practice for using Poll Everywhere within your teaching.

Marking in Turnitin and Canvas Online
Date: Monday 3 March
Time: 1.00-2.00pm

This session will walk you through how to access submitted papers, how to assign marks and feedback using Turnitin Feedback Studio and Canvas Speedgrader, as well as providing some information on how to interpret the similarity report in Turnitin.
