As the new year begins, we wanted to know what the students of Sussex are looking forward to in 2025. From the beauty of spring on campus to the thrill of graduation, here's a roundup of your responses to our @SussexUni Instagram callout. 

Taking the next steps on your academic journey 

Many of you are looking ahead to taking the next step on your own journeys, whether that be passing assessments, planning a year abroad, or, for many of our finalists, graduating this month or in the summer. Graduations are always a highlight for the student comms team too, so we’re excited to be celebrating with you down on Brighton seafront soon!

@SussexUni as also followed by a large contingent of prospective students, and it was wonderful to hear from many that are looking forward to joining us this year. We even had one response from an excited mum whose daughter will be starting at Sussex, and another from student looking forward to welcoming their sister here too. Welcome to the Sussex family! 

Reconnecting with friends and making new ones 

It’s heartwarming that so many of you are most looking forward to is catching up with flatmates and coursemates after the winter break. For others, it's the promise of joining a new society and making new friends that’s most exciting. If you are looking to take up something new, be sure to check out the Refresher’s Fair later this month!  

Campus life 

Our beautiful campus is clearly one of your favourite things about the University. Whilst there’s a certain drama to winter on the South Downs, we can't argue with those of you looking forward to the first new flowers of spring. Here in the student comms team we agree with the respondee who is already excited about the University's One World Week in March, when we can all experience cultures from across the globe, especially the food! 

Looking ahead  

Alongside your studies this year, many of you are also focused on your future careers. The career opportunities and support available at Sussex are crucial for students planning their next steps, whether it's finding a job or pursuing further studies. It was great to hear from those of you that will be taking advantage of volunteering opportunities and alumni events this term as well as those already on the job hunt. 

As we step into a new year, we’re thrilled that so many of you are looking forward to it with enthusiasm and optimism. Here’s to making the most of 2025 here at Sussex!
