My Psychology: Child language: How Children Really Learn Words
Wednesday 2 April 0:00 until 0:00
University of Sussex Campus
Speaker: Professor Jessica Horst
Part of the series: My Psychology
In her public talk, Professor Jessica Horst presents her career, research and impact on child word learning.
“Language is vital for many aspects of human cognition and effective communication. A major challenge in acquiring language is learning the meanings of words.”
Professor Horst’s theoretical insights and methods have influenced the area of child word learning – shifting the focus from children’s immediate actions to what they are remembering over time.
“In my research, I often question what we think we already know. This has led me to undercover some surprising effects and forge new methods for investigating what children do, and do not, know about their first language.”
My Psychology is a new talk series that invites the public to join in the ceremonial occasion of Professorial appointments at the University of Sussex. Each talk will focus on a different psychology topic ranging from the science of kindness to the neuroscience of neurodiversity to the evolution of language.
