Inviting a guest to campus? Find out how to pay for their parking
Paperless Parking is making Guest Parking easier.
Instead of having to collect and display a paper permit, guests can now simply provide their car registration details in advance, and drive onto campus.
Whether you’re hosting an individual guest or organising a larger event, the Transport Office will be able to help.
What is Guest Parking?
Individual staff members and departments regularly invite guests to the University, to attend events, meetings and conferences.
Parking spaces in these cases can be paid by the hosting department or organiser, on behalf of the guest. Guests can then either park in any car park on campus or, if preferred, staff can request a reserved guest space in the Sussex House Car Park on the behalf of their guests.
Reserved guest spaces are indicated by large blue signs in campus car parks, containing the visitor's registration number and the time period of the reservation.
Individual guests and small guest groups
Need to reserve parking for individual guests or small groups (up to 10 spaces)? Simply email the Transport Office 48 hours in advance with your request, providing the guests’ registration details and duration of stay. The team will manually add the registration details to the system.
Events and conferences
If you need to book parking spaces for a large group of guests (10+ spaces), you can continue to contact the Transport Office directly, providing the date of the event and the number of spaces required.
The team uses a self-service portal so that guests can enter their own registration details. A unique parking URL will be generated for these events, with a maximum number of spaces for the duration of the event allocated. You then share this URL with your guests so they can input their vehicle registration details online before arriving to campus, after which they will receive an automated e-mail confirming that their parking is booked for their visit.
Parking will be charged (£2 per vehicle per day) for the spaces used to the host or organising department via a cost code or a Purchase Order. Please note, you will be only charged for parking spaces used. (i.e. if you book 80 spaces but only 40 are used, you will be charged for 40 spaces)
Visitor parking
If your department prefers not to cover the cost of your guests’ parking, individual guests will then be expected to pay Visitor Parking rates as displayed on signage in campus car parks.
Campus-wide events
Parking charges won't apply on large, campus-wide events such an Open Days and Applicant Visit Days.
Blue Badge parking
Parking on campus is free for all Blue Badge holders, in all car parking spaces. If your guest is eligible for Blue Badge parking, please contact the Transport Office in advance with your guest’s vehicle registration details.
There will be no parking charge for Blue Badge holder guests.
