The Sussex Digital Humanities Lab has taken part in the campaign ‘Digital Pioneers: Recoding our Future', a series documentary created for BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. The series include thought leaders, innovators and collaborators who are building and nurturing an ethical and responsible computing profession, developing cutting-edge solutions and creating a future of possibility.
In her thought leadership interview Co-Director Dr. Sharon Webb discussed the problem of historical, societal bias in the code and data sets being used to develop AI. Sharon explained how we need to change research cultures, environments and practices in tech.
Digital technology has an essential role to play in unlocking answers to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The IT industry is pioneering progress and developing solutions to global challenges across areas including health, food security and agriculture, climate action, biodiversity, poverty, quality education, economic growth and sustainable infrastructure. Digital Pioneers: Recoding our Future is a digital series exploring the industry’s vital contribution to the key societal challenges facing our world, and the positive global impact that this will have for future generations.
