Personal Safety Day 2024

Last updated: Tuesday, 5 November 2024
Today is National Personal Safety Day 2024, and this year’s focus from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust is ‘Steering Towards Safety’, with a review of passenger safety on the public transport network. National Personal Safety Day is an annual event aimed at raising awareness of everyday harassment, and recommending solutions to help reduce violence, aggression and abuse in our society. The Suzy Lamplugh Trust website has a range of resources to support staff at the University in considering their personal safety both in, and outside of work.
Our Health and Safety Team also provides Personal Safety training for frontline staff from the Trust. This course is suitable for you if you are in a frontline role where you work directly with students or the public for example, either face to face or through other communication channels such as social media, phone and email. You may work on a reception desk; you may hold one to one tutorial meetings with students, or you may provide first aid to people on campus. These are just some examples of frontline roles at the University. If you carry out lone working activities, where you may have limited or no contact with your manager or others in your team, this course is also suitable for you.
The training covers:
- The definition of personal safety.
- The definition of violence and aggression.
- Lone working activities.
- The violent behaviour cycle.
- Identifying and diffusing escalating situations.
Our next course is on Tuesday 12 November 2024, 09:30-12:00 at Bramber House. To book your place, login to Learn Upon, search the ‘catalogue’ for Personal Safety workshops, and register your place.
