Academic job titles update

For the past 18 months the University has been engaged in a review of the academic promotions process. An important aspect of this has been to review the academic job titles currently in use with the aim of aligning them with changes and practice in the UK and globally.
In August 2023, Professor Keith Jones, in his role as Interim Provost, wrote to all academic staff on this subject, and invited them to share their views in four online events that took place in September 2023. Feedback from these sessions was taken on board to make changes to the proposals and Senate then formally approved the new academic titles at its meeting in November 2023.
These new job titles will be implemented from 1 January 2025, in time for the 2025 Academic Promotions round.
All colleagues impacted will be written to individually in November with details of their new job title. Any member of staff who would prefer to retain their current job title will be able to do so.
The University Executive Team is excited about this positive change, which will see academic colleagues with more internationally recognisable job titles.
