The Network Replacement Programme (NRP) is set to provide Sussex with a fast, efficient and secure new internet network, and the next phase of the project is coming soon.
Capita contract secured
A contract has now been signed with Capita Plc to install the first tranche of network cabling on campus.
Capita will focus on the provision of brand-new fibre optic and copper cabling to replace existing, outdated cables at various locations across the campus.
These ‘phase one’ cabling works will start in late November 2024 and are due for completion in August 2025.
What’s included?
Phase one cabling works will begin in on-campus residences, starting in Northfield from the end of November before progressing to Lewes Court, Brighthelm, Stanmer Court, Swanborough and Norwich House in the first part of 2025.
This phase will also include cabling work in and around Shawcross, Freeman, Richmond and Pevensey 1, scheduled to begin at various times in March and April 2025.
If your building is part of this schedule of works, we’ll let you know full details of the work in good time before it begins.
Traffic management to facilitate these works will be in place on Refectory Road, Southern Ring Road and the Eastern Ring Road at various times between January and April 2025.
Temporary storage areas to support Capita with their work will also be put in place locally, used and removed as the work progresses around the campus.
What else is happening?
Until the end of 2024, you’ll continue to see external trenching and duct repair and installation works around the campus as the project team prepare for the installation of new network cabling.
Contractors for the project are also continuing to conduct non-disruptive surveys around the campus in preparation for future cable installation and other works, as well as installing external Wi-Fi points across the campus.
