The University of Sussex’s School of Life Sciences has received a generous donation from Quorum Technologies in the form of a new fume hood, which will play a vital role in supporting our research activities. This cutting-edge equipment will be shared between two research groups at the university, aiding in the safe handling of solvents and hazardous chemicals during purification processes.
One of the key beneficiaries is Dr Storm Hassell-Hart, Lecturer in Chemistry. His team will use the fume hood to advance their research into novel methods for synthesising small medicinally relevant heterocycles, as well as exploring the use of affordable robotics in drug discovery.
Dr Deborah Sneddon’s research group will also benefit from the new equipment. Her team, which focuses on organic and inorganic chemistry, is using f-block elements to develop imaging biomarkers for disease, so the fume hood will be instrumental in advancing this work.
Quorum Technologies' have a commitment to sustainability and minimising the environmental impact of their work. This includes recycling their manufacturing waste, working with suppliers to remove excess waste and donating equipment to other institutions to support their on-going research and development.
Quorum Technologies' donation to the University of Sussex highlights our shared commitment to advancing scientific research and discovery. Together, we aim to push the boundaries of innovation, contribute to meaningful breakthroughs, and address some of the most pressing challenges facing the world today.
