Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) has now been rolled out to all staff at Sussex.* Throughout August and September, more than 4000 colleagues were invited to set-up and begin using MFA - a vital part of our cyber security programme, designed to provide our staff, student and institutional data with maximum protection against cyber-attack.
The MFA rollout process is now underway for students too. New students have set up MFA as part of their welcome week activities and returning students are being contacted in batches, with the aim of having all students using MFA by the end of October.
Using MFA ensures that our cyber security measures are in line with most other HE providers and with other industries that handle sensitive data. However, the complexity of higher education institutions like Sussex means that the day-to-day user experience of MFA can vary.
As a reminder, you may be prompted to sign in via MFA at any time depending on what you are accessing, where you are, and what device you are using. The MFA systems make a judgement based on set rules. However, most Sussex IT users will not be prompted every time they log on, and in some cases will only be prompted very infrequently.
We would like to thank all colleagues for their patience while we continue to adapt to the new ways of working associated with MFA.
If you are experiencing any problems using MFA, please contact the Service Desk so that they can log the issue and provide a solution as soon as possible.
*a small number of remaining colleagues will be contacted regarding MFA in October.
