Welcome to the University of Sussex, new and returning students!
Our Sustainability Team is holding a series of events this Welcome Week to introduce you to your new campus and Brighton, and to show how you can be sustainable while at Sussex – from getting out into nature between your lectures, to cycling into Brighton.
Have you got questions about sustainability? You can find us at Freshers Fair (Wed 18), the Student Centre Atrium (Tues 17 and Thurs 19) and at the Engineering & Informatics fair (Mon 16). Come along to chat, ask questions, share your thoughts and you might have the chance to grab some freebies!
Social Boundary Walk - Monday 16 Sept – 2-3.30pm
We're lucky to be surrounded by a range of natural areas to escape into, join us for a Social Boundary Walk to explore some of these areas - from Falmer Village Pond to the Boundary Woodland - and to meet other new Sussex students along the way!
Silent Disco Beach Clean - Tuesday 17 Sept – 3-4.30pm
Get ready to kick off your university journey and explore your new city with a unique and unforgettable experience.
Join us for a Silent Disco Beach Clean on Brighton Beach and make a positive impact, while making new friends and moving to the music! Every piece of rubbish you collect make a difference!
Campus Nature Walk - Thursday 19 Sept – 12-1.30pm
Did you know over a third of our campus is dedicated to nature? Sign up for this Nature Walk to start discovering just some of these areas!
We’ll be walking around biodiversity hotspots on the west side of campus, including woodland, scrub and chalk grassland. Come along to see all the green spaces you can explore, and learn all about how they are increasing our campus biodiversity.
Guided Bike Rides - Friday 20 Sept - Morning 10.30am (to campus), Afternoon 3pm (to Brighton)
Would you like to try cycling between campus and Brighton, and check out the route between them? We're running two bike rides to give you the opportunity!
Brighton is a busy town but has cycle paths in place, so that you can safely choode to walk and cycle to and from campus. Whether you want to be more environmentally friendly or just love cycling, join Monika for this bike ride to start discovering your commute options.
Please read all the information for this event before signing up to make sure you're prepared for the bike ride.
