Over 3,000 colleagues across campus have been migrated over to MS Teams Calling as part of the Telephony Modernisation project, with staff in central Professional Services divisions making the switch over to the software in the autumn, followed by academic schools in the spring.
Collaboration between colleagues in Sussex Projects, the Unified Communications team in ITS, and Change Champions ensured that the software was successfully rolled out to schedule. This is a huge success for such a complex telephony project, which sits within the wider Digital Infrastructure Programme (DIP) and is part of our move towards developing better ways of working.
MS Teams Calling is modern telephony that can be used to make and receive calls both within the University and externally, using your usual extension number for ease. The MS Teams app brings many other benefits, such as integration with Outlook calendars, and easy ways to hold online or hybrid meetings with colleagues. It is fully supported by ITS and has helped consolidate our telephony software, as well as replacing old desk phones, which were becoming increasingly out of date and unsupported.
Look out too for the new Alerter Refuge Units that have replaced the old red emergency phones. These wireless units operate via radio control and are independent of network access. They're located in corridors and stairwells and can be used in the event of a fire, incident, or any type of emergency.
Congratulations to all involved in the successful rollout.
