The University of Sussex has appointed Professor Kristine (Kristi) Langhoff as Interim Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Knowledge Exchange), with effect from the start of June 2024. Professor Langhoff is Professor of Social Work here at Sussex, and is covering the role vacated by Professor Debbie Keeling who is currently Interim Dean of the Business School.
Kristi joined Sussex in 2014 and contributes to teaching across the department including the BA and MA Social Work programmes, both BA and MA in Childhood and Youth Studies programmes, and the Continuing Professional Development programmes. Kristi’s current research interests include young people’s experiences of extra-familial harm and the use of creative, participatory methods to improve safeguarding responses to young people at risk of violence and abuse. She gained her Masters and PhD at Arizona State University in the United States, where she was a practising clinical social worker.
The duties of the Interim Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (DPVC) are combined 50/50 with Kristi’s academic role within the School of Education and Social Work. The DPVC role involves strategic oversight of the Knowledge Exchange Framework and leading relations with external stakeholders at local, national and international level.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sasha Roseneil said: “This DPVC role is essential as we seek to expand the impact of our research, develop our relationships with stakeholders, and grow our future research income. I have great confidence that Kristi will fulfil this role brilliantly whilst Debbie leads the Business School.”
Professor Keith Jones, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise said: “I am delighted that Kristi will become our Interim DPVC Knowledge Exchange. She brings a wealth of experience with her and a great deal of enthusiasm to the role. I am really looking forward to working with her in the coming months.”
Kristi said: “Being invested in my colleagues’ research impact and knowledge exchange journeys has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my academic career. Whilst in this interim role, I look forward to devoting more time and energy into the diverse and deeply important knowledge exchange work taking place across the University.”
