We know that you receive a lot of information every day and that the people who understand what you need to know are your fellow students. That’s why we collaborate with student creators to bring you content that matters to you.
Our new Student Blog is a space where you can hear from your fellow students about the things that matter most for improving your university experience, whilst you may well have spotted our Digital Media Creators (DMCs), bringing you updates and opportunities across our social media channels and the Student Hub.
Bringing you your Student Blog
The Student Blog is written by a group of students dedicated to sharing what they have have learnt throughout their university experience. From using AI at university to career advice for international students, they write about the things that matter most to them, and to you. The blog is managed by a student and staff collaborative team as part of the Connector Programme.
Your time at university is a great opportunity to make connections, form communities and develop as a person. But with so much going on, it can also be easy to feel a little overwhelmed. Your student blog aims to help you feel understood, included and supported, encouraging you to explore new opportunities and grow throughout your university journey.

Campus celebrities – the Digital Media Creator scheme
Our DMCs are current students with an eye for engaging online content. They work with our Social Media and Student Communications teams to create content around community and research for the University’s social media channels, focusing primarily on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and for student communications like Flint magazine.
Creators have the opportunity to get involved in some of our biggest moments, covering campus and University events such as Graduation or One World Week, as well as local events across Brighton & Hove like Brighton Pride or Brighton Festival. You can often spot them filming around campus, and you will probably recognise several of them in our TikTok, Reels or YouTube content.
Here is DMC Manasi, explaining the scheme:
Get involved
We regularly recruit for student communicators to join the team.
If you are interested in becoming a blogger, make sure you have signed up to the Student Connector programme, where you will also hear about other great paid opportunities to collaborate with staff to improve the University for students. You can find out more about being a connector in (you guessed it!) blogger Jenny’s post on Connector jobs.
Want to become a campus celebrity? The Digital Media Creator scheme is a great opportunity to build your content creation skills and boost your CV, as well as earning money creating content that speaks to your fellow students. We will be recruiting for new Digital Media Creators in October, so keep an eye on our channels for when applications open.

[Digital Media Creator, Manasi, talking to camera]
I am Manasi, one of your DMC's, but wait a minute... what is a DMC?
A Digital Media Creator, that's what it means. Being part of this team at the University means that you put out engaging, fun, informative and relevant content through all the social media channels of the University.
We represent the University and we try to bring all aspects of the experience at Sussex onto the online platforms.
[Overlaid text box: A brief I really enjoyed working on…]
“Reasons to be cheerful,” because that gave me an opportunity to go out and find things that were cheerful and the more I looked, the more I found.
[Overlaid text box: What’s great about being a DMC?]
As someone who documents, it's a great way to get paid to do the things that you like and also create content that you think you would like to see on the University pages. It also helps me stay updated as to what's happening on the campus and, now and again, people stop me and tell me that they saw me on Instagram, which is always fantastic.
So that's me and I will see you around!
