The Royal Society, the world’s oldest scientific academy, has announced this year’s Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, which will open its doors on 3 July in London.
This year’s programme, which includes thought-provoking talks, workshops and demonstrations to suit all ages, includes 14 exhibits, three of which highlight ground-breaking research by Sussex scientists.
Robin Banerjee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global and Civic Engagement) said: “The decision to include three exhibits from Sussex for the 2024 Summer Science Exhibition is testament to the fantastic range of scientific research taking place at our University, and underlines our scientists’ commitment to strengthening public engagement with their cutting-edge work.”
The free exhibition, which showcases the most cutting-edge scientific research, provides a unique opportunity for members of the public to talk to scientists about their work and get hands-on with science.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover our evolution from apes to walking and talking humans and see how they compare to our great ape cousins via a puzzle-solving game, with Professor Gillian Forrester (School of Psychology).
Take a look at the cosmic wonders revealed by the James Webb Space Telescope in its first two years of observations, with Professor Stephen Wilkins (School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences).
Learn about the mysterious properties of ghostly neutrinos, which may help us answer fundamental questions about our universe with Dr Kate Shaw and Professor Simon Peeters (School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences).
