The University experience is more than textbooks and lectures. We recently reached out to our students on Instagram to find out what you love about Sussex, and we have uncovered some of the aspects that make our University an extraordinary place to learn, live and thrive.
The beautiful campus
Many of you said how much you love our campus and its chilled atmosphere. From the Brutalist style of its buildings to its fabulous green spaces, everybody has a special spot. Last year our Digital Media Creators Ping and Odwin explored a variety of places on campus, including their favourite hidden study spaces and the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA)– you can watch their videos on Instagram (@SussexUni).
A diverse and friendly community
The soul of Sussex lies in its vibrant and inclusive community. We have students and members of staff from all over the world, people with different backgrounds, experiences and opinions, and you have told us how much you love all this diversity.
If you want to learn more about other cultures, the Language Café provides a social space to meet students, practice other languages and exchange cultural information.
It was also lovely to read how much you appreciate your teaching staff – remember the Education Awards are now open and you can nominate any member of staff, both academic and professional services staff, who has had a positive impact during your studies.
We do like to be beside the seaside!
One standout feature that resonated with many of you was the University’s location – nestled in the South Downs and just a few minutes from Brighton and the seaside. Brighton’s seafront is the ideal place to take bracing walks to clear your head on cold winter days, but make sure to wrap yourself up well – it can get very windy!
Coffee culture
Our campus is dotted with charming coffee shops, each offering a unique atmosphere for students to unwind, socialise or delve into your studies. The ACCA cafe had a special mention in your list.
We also recommend you pay a visit to Doctor’s Orders in Brighton and Sussex Medical School and the Library café, which have been recently refurbished. For those of you who prefer bubble tea, Room 76 at the back of Falmer Bar is the place for you.
